Week 5 Assignments

This week we have been learning about replacing color in your photos. You have all successfully accomplished color replacement on your tutorial lesson! Now it is time to apply your new knowledge to your own photo.

Find a photo that you took and replace the color in at least one area. Make the changes look natural. DO NOT turn brown hair to hot pink, instead chance brown eyes to green, shirt colors, etc.

Rules of Composition:

We have talked about the rule of thirds, the biggest thing to remember is NEVER center your subject in your photo. Instead, create a better composition by landing your subject in one of the intersecting points.

Landscapes
Keep your horizon line away from the middle of the photo. If you want sky as the emphasis, keep the horizon line 2/3 from the top. If you want land or water as the emphasis, keep the horizon 1/3 from the top.

Diagonal Rule

Instead of using the rule of thirds, use the diagonal rule to create interest in your photo. This means that your subject will draw your eye from corner to corner of the photo, creating a diagonal.

PHOTOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENTS: DUE: Monday, Oct. 11, 2010
*Come to class with landscape photos that have both the sky and land as an emphasis.

*Also, start taking pictures from Category 2 in your packet. Begin taking pictures of LINE.

* Apply the DIAGONAL RULE to a few of your photos.

I will be giving you grades on Monday for coming to class with the expected photos! Be prepared!

Week 4 Assignments

Straight Vs. Angled Shot

We have been discussing photo compositions during class. What makes them boring, interesting and how to create a quality photo. During this week you need to take your cameras home and practice taking different angles of shots. Use one subject and take a straight on shot and shots that are at a different angle. When you get back to the classroom you are going to pick your straight on shot and the best angled shot to compare.

We have also learned a few techniques about ehnancing our photos. I showed you the Auto Options as well as Curves, Levels, and Color Balance.

For your first blog post you need to color enhance your best angled shot and compare it to the straight on and unenhanced photo. Make sure to include camera info for each new picture, Photoshop steps, and a relfection on the final photo.
